Saturday February 9th
Sunday May 25th
The group plans to rendezvous Sunday, May 25, for a Memorial Day Weekend Social as its first event of the boating season. No pre-planning or advance registration is necessary; members will simply meet at the Captain's Inn in Forked River, NJ, for an afternoon of food and good times to christen the new season. The rest of the schedule will proceed as follows:
Friday June 20th
This annual event has been the epicenter of the group's schedule since its inception back in 1998. Last year, the NJPPC moved this event to a Friday instead of Saturday. The result? A 95 percent approval rating from attendees. Half of the participants went home on Saturday; the other half spent the weekend at Trump Marina and had a "Lunch Fun Run" to Lamberti's in Margate. This year the group plans to repeat 2007's event with the addition of a formal departure on Friday afternoon to accommodate those people who need to tend to business in the morning. Photographer Tim Sharkey will be hanging out of a helicopter once again to cover all of the action with his zoom lens.
Saturday June 28th
This was a new "outside the box" event that was attempted for the first time in 2006. The result? A huge success that warranted two Wave Runner Poker Runs in 2007. This event is the first of two Wave Runner Poker Runs for the 2008 season.
Saturday July 5th
This was another new "outside the box" experiment for 2006. That year, NJPPC had 18 boats rafted side by side. In 2007, the group's new record was 25 boats. "This year, we are looking to break that record," says the group's president, Dave Patnaude. It's another event that requires no pre-planning and no advance registration. The day consists of great food and drink, laughs and unlimited swimming and rafting fun.
Saturday July 12th
This event was originally started by the Day on the Bay Foundation in the 1970s. Since then, this events has put smiles on thousands of Special Olympians, as well as mentally and physically challenged children, special needs children, and their families. This event offers a day of entertainment that includes a "carnival atmosphere" complete with games and small rides, an antique and classic car display, food and drinks, live entertainment and performance powerboat rides on Barnegat Bay at the Jersey Shore. The boat rides are conducted by local performance powerboat owners who volunteer their time and boats to share with those less fortunate.
Saturday August 2nd
This event was last produced several years ago out of Windward Beach on the Metedeconk River in Brick, NJ. The NJPPC Planning Committee decided to revive this event for 2008 and change it up big time. The planning of this event is going to be one of the main focuses of the organization; watch this space for details.
Friday August 22nd
This is a brand new event for NJPPC. This event has been planned to quench the thirst of those members who wish to travel a short distance to an entirely new boating area that is different from the Jersey Shore. The event will consist of overnight stays at the upscale Annapolis Marriott as well as the luxurious Hyatt in Cambridge, Maryland. This event will be limited to 25 boats.
Saturday August 30th
This will be the second installment of what has become a very successful event for NJPPC, and it will also serve as the last "official" event for NJPPC's 2008 season. |
